Overlook
to the project Nordic-Baltic network of MANagement of TRAditional
rural biotopes and landscapes (ManTra)
The
Association for traditonal rural landscapes of Southwest Finland has
carried out wide network project concerning semi-natural areas in
Nordic and Baltic area and Karelia. Three seminars has been hold:
in Tallinn (EST), In Petrozavodsk (RUS) and in Nordal (NOR).
The
project will create and entstengthen networks and cooperation between
Nordic, Baltic and Northern Karelian non-governmental organisations,
which are focusing on the management and conservation of traditonal
rural landscapes and biotopes. The project will establish a forum
where different management experiences and results of Nordic-
Baltic
studies of this subject are presented and discussed further. Study
material, produced by NGOs participating in the project, will be delivered
on virtual university courses in 2005-2006. Project will present following
activities:
1)
English language internet forum concernig traditional rural biotopes
that is maintained by the Association for traditonal rural landscapes
of Southwest Finland.
2)
Virtual teaching courses using material already produced by the associations
and institutions of the participating countries.
3)
Seminars and conference concerning burning issues and latest achievements
on this field.
At
the moment new domain www.landscape.fi is reserved and material of
the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic http://www.virtuaaliamk.fi/Mantra
will be mowed there during April-June. Association for Traditional
Rural Landscapes in SW Finland has employed student (from March to
May 2006) to help in processing materia. In addition expert service
is needed during 2nd year to accomplish the Internet forums. A competitive
bidding of the expert service will be arranged.
Latest
seminar in Norway
The
ManTra project hold its third meeting and seminar in Dalsbygda, Norddal
municipalites in Norway 15-18.9.2005. The seminar subject was involvement
of local people/stakeholders in the management and planning of traditional
rural landscapes. Some of the project presentations can be found in
ManTra -pages. Project members visited summer farm in Gudbrandsdalen
(Peer Gynt area), the Herdalssetra (World Heritage site) and traditional
farms such as Ansok. Moreover the project members got familiar with
old food traditions at Petrines and with local handicraft traditions
at a family farm in Dalsbygda. A common suggestion for creating of
Nordic-Baltic strategy of conservation and management of traditional
rural landscapes and biotopes was discussed, this suggestion is further
developed aiming that it is signed by NGOs/Institutions before Lithuanian
meeting that takes place in June.
Following
tasks in spring-summer shall be establishing forum www.landscape.fi
and preparation of Northern-European seminar in Lithuania in 15-19.6.2006.
The topic shall be "Management of Traditional Rural Landscapes
in Agri-Environmental programmes of Northern Europe". The theme
is important because the Lithuanian Agri-Environmental programme is
under construction and they are evolving measures and procedures for
the programme. The seminar place of next June will be decided in Lithuania.
